Specimen size: Up to 1 " x 1" (2.54cm) cylindrical
specimen.
Integration time: Either 6 seconds (24 spins), or 24 seconds
(1 20 spins).
Sensitivity/Noise level: 2.5 x 10-8 EMU.CM-3 (2.5 x I 0-5 A/m)
for 4 spins at the 24 secs time constant.
Data output: On single 5-digit liquid crystal panel, with figures
9mm high. The display normally indicates the'NORTH'component. The 'EAST'
component is obtained by the press of a button. One (two) figures after
the decimal point are indicated for 6 secs (24 secs integration time)
The data is also available via an RS232 serial link that also controlls
the instrument. .
Range: 4 decade attenuator.
Power supply: Battery or mains 240 or 110 V. The life of the
batteries approx. 8 hours in continuous use. The batteries are rechargeable
from 240/1 1 0 V mains or a 12 V car battery. The power consumption
is 8 W.

Data processing: A serial interface which can be fitted inside
the minispin allows it to be controlled from a computer. The interface
is a RS232, working at 4800 bauds. It controls the minispin and passes
the results back to the computer. If a notebook computer is used the
kit becomes fully portable. The programs are written in Basic (the source
code is provided) and can be modified by the user to suit particular
requirements. There is also a Windows version and a Macintosh version
of driving software.
